Book review by Heather Dewhurst

Olivia Church has employed her obviously extensive knowledge, to provide an accessible history of this God. Today we know Him by His Greek name - Osiris, however the Egyptians knew Him as Wesir. The mythology is presented to the reader in an accessible manner.
Osiris/Wesir’s roles as God of life, plants, death and rebirth are clearly depicted, with an explanation of His rituals, the festivals associated with Him.
A chapter is devoted to describing how magic was used by common folk as well as specialists in ancient Egypt. It is fascinating to find that, depending on their level of literacy, people would use a combination of written and verbal spells, together with symbols, objects, a wide
variety of ingredients and actions. The author includes translations of spells from the texts in which Osiris/Wesir is called on.
This is a fascinating book, a perfect beginning to learn about this God, but will also be helpful to those who already have a relationship with Him, as there is an extensive bibliography to delve into.
