Kitchen Witch Elen Ritual - September 2026

You will need –

Candle with matches or lighter– white, green, red, brown, Ochre

A bag or piece of material (see colours above or your choice)

Herbs/plants – suggestions are - oak, elder, beech, hawthorn, black thorn, silver birch, willow, pine, ivy, bramble, ferns, wild rose, daffodils, hyacinth, primrose, wild garlic, mint, water cress, moss, wood anemone, mugwort, all fungi.

Crystals - amber, moss agate, unakite, white howlite, red jasper, hag stone, pebble.

Other items - nuts, twigs, antlers, seeds, leaves, animal fir, bones.

Incense if you wish, your choice of herbs

Circle casting -

Maiden, cast your circle white Weave a web of glowing light.

Mother, cast your circle red Weave the strands of glowing threads

Matriarch, cast your circle green Weave the fibre of worlds between

Crone, cast your circle black Weave the wisdom that we lack.

Elen of the Ways, light of the land, on you we call

Brighten up our souls in these golden days of autumn

Goddess of the forest and all creatures who dwell within

Grant us illumination and courage, grace and wisdom

By all the powers of autumn and the sacred spring

Energy and transformation we ask you to bring to this rite

Information about Elen -

Elen is an ancient British goddess and when I say ancient I mean Palaeolithic, a time when reindeers roamed in this country.  Elen is a mysterious and elusive deity but she has many connections.

She appears in that Welsh myth (Mabinogion) as a shamanic sort of deity.  The emperor of Rome dreams of her sitting on a golden throne and becomes determined to find her.  This Elen is a goddess of precognitive dreams and soul journeys.  In time or maybe an echo of her past, she became associated with the land and all of its roads, paths, ley lines and trackways.  This is her aspect of Elen of the Ways and the first Roman highways were thought to have been invented by her.  There are also several wells and waterfalls in Britain that are thought to be sacred to Elen, in time some of these became Christianised as St Helen’s Wells

Her name is believed to mean light or light bearer, giving Elen another layer as a Goddess of fire, as well as water and earth.  With fire being the magical element of transformation Elen is always changing and transforming.  

As we see the seasons change and the animals start to migrate; you can feel her presence in the energies that flow through the earth and it is that energy that we can work with during the Mabon season.  In the spring Elen appears as a maiden all cloaked in green, with an antlered headdress or she can be a lady of fire in the autumn months.  It is this aspect that we will be working with today so picture her now as a beautiful woman with long red hair and a scarlet gown with golden leaves.  She will bring you warmth, enlightenment and magic into these glorious autumn days.

The working -

We are going to make a protection sachet, with Elen energy, to keep us safe on all our travels during the darker months.

Have all your chosen items.

Light your candle.

Hold your bag or cloth, ask Elen to guide you on all your journeys, visualise Her hands joining yours so that you both send white light to clear any residual energy from the material.  Then visualise the light changing colour to fill it with protective force. When ready, place it down in front of you.

Pick up each of your items and do as you did with your bag/material.

When filled, tie it closed, then hold it in both your hands, sending as much protective energy into it as you feel it can take. Thank Elen and feel Her hands move away from yours.

You can tuck this sachet into your bag, pocket, car so you have Elen’s protection wherever you go.
