I have already written a blog on the Magic of Knitting which you can find here
and I remember that it was quite interesting for me, as while I created each stitch, each row, each block, I felt that it was very meditative - thinking, sorting stuff out in my mind, just being in the moment.
Fast forward to today - I had quite a bit of yarn left over from various projects, and i wondered what I could do with them. I decided to crochet another blanket and pulled out my large bag of yarn and a size 4 crochet hook. As I picked up the first colour, I remember wondering what this particular yarn had been for. Oh yes - it was left over from crocheting my granddaughters blanket and knitting her a dolly. Then the cream colour came out - that was left over from my youngest grandson's blanket. The emerald green was from my eldest grandson's blanket. Each time that I added a colour to my blanket, I remembered what I had used that specific yarn for, the person whom I made the item for and the fond thoughts of them that it evoked.
It wasn't only my grandchildren's baby blankets that I had crafted. I also had leftover yarn from the blankets of my great niece and great nephew, along with yarn from a blanket I recently completed for my dear friend Rachel's daughter and son-in-law, who are expecting a baby.
There is yarn from a couple of Kitchen Witch projects that have been excitedly planned and thought out, with many crochet patterns bounced back and forth on our chat thread, followed by photos of the finished product.
So in a way, it is my memory blanket. Each time that I pick it up, I can remember all the many stitches that went into all the many blankets and projects, and the smiles of those recipients who loved the finished craft, and then crocheted once more in my own blanket with what was left.
All that's left for me to do now is buy some more yarn for the next project...I wonder what that will be?
