This is a little add on to the video that I recorded making Elderberry Rob.

As I said in the video, I usually make elderflower cordial, but because of the rains that we had, I decided to leave the flowers and wait for the elderberries.
Although the Elder herself, the flowers and the berries all have the general magical properties, there is something extra magical and different to the berries than the flowers. The flowers appear late May to around mid June and the energies are gearing up to mid summer - and the prospect of those lazy hazy days of summer. The flowers are frothy, buzzing with summer energy and conjure up thoughts of daydreaming and gentle healing and cleansing.
The elderberries are a little early this year - as are the sloes of the Blackthorn and Blackberries. We have had a lot of warm sunshine and not a lot in the way of rain for many many weeks now. Elderberries to me speak of something that is connected to the other realms - I can't quite put it into words, but they are dark and mysterious and hold a lot of magic in those tiny deep purple berries. I feel the same way about sloes and blackberries - divination, journeying and intuition are words that come to me when I think about them.
The recipe for the Elderberry Rob is taken from The Hedgerow Apothecary by Christine Iverson.
If you watch the video on YouTube, I have given the amounts of the ingredients that you will need if you'd like to make a batch for yourself.
